Spring 2010 Map update
I this just not yet available. I use the content manager and it shows it is there. I click to purchase and it takes me to Magellans web site but there is no place to puchase for 39.
Help me out here. Thanks

- Now it is showing available. 79.00. Maybe I should get a discount since I got this 4700 when it first came out and have suffered through major issues. Hah. Doubt that will happen. Probably will update anyways.
- So I purchased it, got my AAA discount and now content manager will not activate my download. WTF. I did not even really download anything, I got to Ask Maggie and that is about useless. Has anyone else downloaded the updated maps yet or am I the first.
- I called them yesterday and they said to call monday
- Sorry about the problems you guys are having. I went to the website last Thursday and it didn't have pricing posted yet, so then I called Magellan's phone support to check it out. The guy said it would be available this week. I also asked him about any firmware/software update and he said he thought that was due this week... not sure he really knew but I was going to wait and see if there was one, then download the software and then the 2010 maps.
Looks like you ran into the typical 'New Magellan' performance and attention to detail so I guess you're the guinea pigs... think I'll wait a while and see what success folks have here with this update. Hopefully they get it fixed promptly.
A most wise decision when it comes to Magellan.......Looks like you ran into the typical 'New Magellan' performance and attention to detail so I guess you're the guinea pigs... think I'll wait a while and see what success folks have here with this update.- Bought new 2010 map update Sunday, still no luck on download, hopefully this week. Love my 4700, but needs updated maps.
- So I took the afternoon off today so I could call them about this. Prior to calling I though I would try it one more time. It went through. It took approx 1/2 hour to load. Checked the settings and it shows Base map 35 and Detailed map 39 (which is the new one). Still has firmware version 2.20 so no update on that. I will see how the new maps are from here out. Hopefully they are closer than the last ones.
- Yes Sir - Finally they updated maps, just got mine, and tested it on a friends street that was not on earlier version, it's on now plus others I checked, things are looking up at Magellan.. Now my life is complete, what there's newer models out 'Oh No'

Well that reply didn't work out... I'd think hard about a new model, just by reviewing the website FAQ's for those models I saw a lot of Magellan quotes with 'this is a known issue'... unfortuntely my recent experience translates that to mean 'we just had to get these on the market and we'll probably address these major bugs slowly while you lose your patience!'Yes Sir - Finally they updated maps, just got mine, and tested it on a friends street that was not on earlier version, it's on now plus others I checked, things are looking up at Magellan.. I'm always tempted by the new and improved toy but this time I'll be a bit wiser and withold my decision, after all it's been over six months waiting for their 4700 updates to come out (not the 2010 map).- Yea In hear that, I'll also wait and see, maybe they will be good X-Mas presents by then and a lower price on amazon. Randall
- I bought the Roadmate 1440 a week ago and have been trying to get the 'free' update via the content manager. It still prompts me to buy at 79.99 price and a few calls with the customer service has not helped so far. They have escalated the issue.
Any one else who had luck trying to download the map via content manager. I even reinstalled the software (recommended by them) but it doesn't help.
SR. - The FREE option magically appeared today afternoon and I was able to apply the Map 39 update successfully (took about 45 minutes overall). Base Map still says 35 but detailed map says 39 on the Info tab.

Guess, I was too hopeful about the 4700 firmware/software update beyond 2.20 coming out, apperenty their guy was misinformed as well.
Can anyone say how the map update has gone as far as any POI or other differences? I was thinkin maybe I'll go with that for now. - So far so good, new roads here in Tucson are now on update, plus I see some updated poi's. Was mostly interested in road updates, new and revamped.
- I havent been able to do much driving around with the new maps yet but I have seen a few new roads on there that were not there before. Some new neighborhoods. Also I do see a lot of updated POI's. So far so good. The unit is still 200 feet off though. Hah, maybe next update.
I still like the usability of the unit. - 'Funny' our house is off too, but it's off on Google maps and Garmin, other wise pretty accurate.
- Can someone pls tell me who to talk to and where can I find the 2010 map update for the Magellan 4700?
Thanks.
Regards,
Lockett - You can find the map update here:

Do you happen to know if they are planning anymore releases beyond 2.20? I've called over and over and their support staff acts as if they know nothing about issues with 2.20 or any possible future releases.Guess, I was too hopeful about the 4700 firmware/software update beyond 2.20 coming out, apperenty their guy was misinformed as well.

I have not updated to 2.20 due to the known issue for the on-screen positioning being off. I was told and have read that it was slated to be fixed in a future release, but I have not seen one since 2.20.If you are referring to a software update, why do you need one? What doesn't work as advertised?

Magellan is a popular manufacturer of personal navigation devices. The company offers a wide variety of GPS systems, including devices designed for both hiking and driving. Many Magellan GPS devices, including the Maestro 4350, have the ability to be updated. This means that you can add new routes and points-of-interests (POIs) to your GPS's database.
Step 1
Open the Web browser of your choice and navigate to Magellan's official website (See Resources). Click on the Support tab at the top right of the screen. Download the Content Manager Toolbox to your computer's desktop.
Step 2
Install the software, and when it is complete, plug in your Magellan GPS to an available USB port in your system. Wait for the program to recognize your GPS, and click Check for Updates, which will appear. If an update exists, you will be prompted to install it. Click OK and wait as your computer downloads and installs the update.
Disconnect your Magellan GPS from your computer when the installation is complete, and begin using the updated maps and routes.
